How to write AI image prompts
A practical guide for Muse Image and Meta Image workflows. Structure your prompts like a creative brief — whether you are generating product shots from scratch or editing an uploaded photo.
How to write effective AI image prompts
- 1
Define the subject
Name what appears in the frame — a product, person, room, or scene. Be specific: "wireless over-ear headphones" beats "electronics."
- 2
Set the style and mood
Add aesthetic cues: minimalist, cinematic, editorial, retro pixel-art, or luxury jewelry. Style guides color and atmosphere.
- 3
Describe lighting
Natural window light, soft studio lighting, golden hour, or dramatic stage lights. Lighting is one of the fastest ways to improve realism.
- 4
Specify composition
Mention framing (flat-lay, three-quarter product angle, vertical Story layout) and where to leave negative space for text overlays.
- 5
Add constraints
End with rules: no watermark, no readable text (unless you want it), keep the subject unchanged for edits. Constraints reduce unwanted surprises.
Pro tips
Be specific, not vague
Replace "product photo" with "wireless over-ear headphones on pure white background, soft studio lighting." The model needs concrete visual anchors.
For edits, state what must not change
Photo edit prompts should explicitly preserve identity: same face, pose, clothing, and proportions. This reduces unwanted re-generation.

Prompt examples
Text to image
Professional ecommerce product photo of wireless over-ear headphones on a pure white background. Soft studio lighting with subtle ground shadow, sharp focus, centered hero composition. Constraints: no props, no text, no watermark.
Photo edit
Edit the uploaded photo. Change only the background to a clean white studio backdrop. Keep the subject unchanged — same person, face, hair, skin tone, expression, pose, clothing, and proportions. Do not generate a new image.
